Why Shipping Crates?

I love the idea of modular houses, the ease of use, the power in structure, but finding something that I would trust to withstand Florida's weather was an issue. Steel Shipping crates seemed to be an amazing option. They are spacious and strong, and the best of all, modular.

My favorite though, is that there are SO many of them, once you start building, you can keep going forever. Of course this picture is just an example... Our plan is much simpler...

What are we doing?!

A friend and I started talking about six months ago about building a house. The idea came from wanting more, but not knowing how or when we'd ever be able to do it. How would we get through creditors, could we use cash? Would it be something we could do on our own, even? I didn't want the usual house that used materials that were expesive and fragile. I wanted my house to stand forever, to be sustainable.



Shipping crate houses are nothing new. But a single mom and a friend doing it with no start-up what-so-ever is. I'll post more information and updates as they come. I want to make this one less pipe dream and one more DREAM COME TRUE!
